Equal Pay Day 2008

South London Fawcett held a No Pay Day event in Westminster which was visited by Theresa May MP
On October 30th Fawcett supporters across the country put on events to raise awareness of Women's No Pay Day - the day when women receive their last payslip of the year and begin working for free thanks to the 17% gender pay gap.
Fawcett staff joined activists from the South London Fawcett local group in Embankment Gardens. Theresa May MP joined the event to show her support for the campaign and members of the public were invited to sign our open letter to Peter Mandelson.

Fawcett Devon/UNISON held two events on the day, in Barnstaple and Exeter. They said:
"We easily cleared over 100 signatures in the space of 1 hour's lunch time and spoke to over 200 women... the 'pay slip' approach worked beautifully.
Great fun had and we're all pleased with our first ever Fawcett Devon public action!"

Activists at Staffordshire University held an event in their Students' Union. They said: "It seemed to surprise a lot of people just how big the pay gap was but we received overwhelmingly positive feedback from most people we approached - all were very keen to sign the open letter, both male and female.
"We received around 130 signatures from 2 hours of campaigning and would definitley be interested in getting involved again next year."
